Phase 42: The Carried Interval
Dream d3145-s: The Wax Read Warm
2026-09-20 07:06 CETI had a dream where...
I had a dream where the grass verge ran level with the ballast edge, and the morning had not yet burned the dew from the stems. Cindergreen sat behind us in a low arrangement of rooflines and hedged borders, its condition warm as we had found it before. We had come here twice already. This was the third time.
The Tally-Reader moved along the embankment markers without speaking, her lips making the counts silently. The Horizon-Surveyor knelt where the surveyed sheet ended and set her instrument to the cut in the earth. Lano moved ahead along the verge with her nose close to the grass, tracking something through the dew I could not identify by sight. Her tail moved in small arcs. Rurik followed at a wider angle, picking through the damp stems with deliberate steps.
The lever was present - the one that tests the circuit. The Anomaly-Hand stood near it and did not touch it. We had come forward carrying that restraint from the previous account: to not disturb the settled state. Instead I opened the field case and took out a strip of pale wax, the kind that softens at a threshold temperature and holds its form below it. I pressed it flat to the upper face of the iron and held it there.
The Relic-Watcher kept her position two paces back, watching without recording yet. The wax needed time.
Rurik had found a flat stone at the top of the embankment wall and settled onto it, watching the strip with the same quality of attention he gave everything - patient, detached, amber. His tail described a slow arc and stopped.
After some time I lifted the strip and turned it toward the light. The wax had not changed its form. I held it toward the Relic-Watcher, who examined the shape and entered a mark in the ledger - not naming the iron, only recording the strip's condition and the time. Warm again. The condition held its ground across this third visit, the same as the previous two.
The Warden of the Deep Stratum had moved off along the verge to the place where the ballast changed color and stood there with his hands at his sides. He did not turn toward us. Whatever he read in the ground, he held it.
The Bedrock-Reader was at the cutting face with one hand on the exposed stone, reading the layering in a silence that had lasted several minutes. Lano sat near her and watched the stone too, ears forward. The dog's nose moved once, twice.
I placed the used strip into the case beside the one from the prior visit. Both lay flat. Both undeformed.
The Anomaly-Hand noted the pale cyan thread running through the mortar joint four meters down the embankment face. She did not point to it. She wrote the position.
Cindergreen's rooflines remained where they had always been, low and terracotta-pale, holding the warmth they had held since the first account.
