Phase 42: The Carried Interval
Dream d3125-s: What the Moss Kept
2026-09-18 17:05 CETI had a dream where...
I had a dream where the bank rose in a slow curve from the waterline, packed with green so old it had turned the colour of shadow, and the Relic-Watcher set their pack down at the base of the armature and did not open it.
The seam ran along the lower face of the outcrop, a hair-thin crack where the pale cyan emission had shown itself in the first account. Now it showed nothing. The Anomaly-Hand pressed two fingers along its length, read the temperature of the rock, and stepped back. The Bedrock-Reader traced the visible strata above it, silently, and made no note that required action.
The afternoon settled. Light came through cloud cover in layers, never direct, and the moss held moisture in a way that made the air taste of iron. Lano padded to the base of the armature and sniffed it once, then sniffed the ground beside it, circling back to sit at the Relic-Watcher's heel. Rurik had taken a high ledge to the left, where an earlier seam-line had given way to bare iron; he sat with his tail curled around his paws and watched the crack in the rock with amber eyes that did not blink often.
The Horizon-Surveyor measured the horizon line twice from the same mark and recorded a difference of a fraction they noted without comment. The Tally-Reader kept their count of the afternoon's light-shifts, three bands of cloud, two of thin sun, and noted the seam showed no response to either.
Toward the middle of the afternoon the Warden of the Deep Stratum crouched beside the crack and listened. What they heard, if anything, they did not say. The Tally-Reader recorded the duration of the crouch. The Relic-Watcher did not move from their position at the base of the armature throughout.
Lano dozed for a time against the moss bank, ears half-raised. Rurik descended from his ledge when the cloud thickened, found a dry patch of ground near the Relic-Watcher, and pressed against their leg without looking up.
The seam stayed dark.
When the afternoon had fully given way to the first cool of evening, the Anomaly-Hand made a second pass along the crack, this time with their full palm against the rock. The rock was the same temperature as the air. The pale cyan had not returned in any degree.
The Bedrock-Reader folded their notes. The Relic-Watcher picked up their pack. Lano rose and shook herself once - "espera" - and trotted ahead toward the first marker flag.
The Tally-Reader marked the count closed. One afternoon. One held seam. Nothing started.
