Phase 41: The Unreckoned Stratum
Dream d3079-s: The Uncounted Roofline
2026-09-15 11:05 CETI had a dream where...
I had a dream where the wagon road became clay under rain, and the wheels sank to their axles before we walked ahead on foot.
The low roofs of Kestrelfield appeared through the weather: flat industrial profiles, rust-colored, sitting almost at ground level as if the ground had risen around them or they had been pressed down by accumulation. The Tally-Reader counted the roof ridges visible from the road and stopped at eleven. Eleven was not a number that appeared anywhere in the surveyed sheet.
Lano padded ahead through the mud, nose low, ears flat against the rain. She paused at a post sunk into the verge - not a waymarker, not in any style the Relic-Watcher recognized - and sniffed its base for a long time before moving on.
The Horizon-Surveyor said nothing. She marked where the surveyed sheet ended and the unreckoned ground began: a line running just north of the road, invisible in the clay, existing only in the notebook she held under her coat.
Rurik had been riding in the wagon. When the wagon stopped he came forward and sat at the edge of the road, amber eyes on the settlement ahead, and would not be moved. We stepped around him. He watched us go.
The Bedrock-Reader put her hand to the exposed face of an embankment cut by the road. The strata were wrong - too old for what stood above them. She pulled her hand back without comment.
The Anomaly-Hand pointed to a seam in the embankment face: pale cyan, faint, running horizontally for perhaps two meters before disappearing under the road's surface. No one recorded an explanation. The Warden of the Deep Stratum wrote its position and dimension in her log and left the line blank after.
We reached the first building as the rain eased. A doorway without a door. Inside: the sound of water moving, underground, slow. The Tally-Reader wrote eleven in the margin of the surveyed sheet and drew a bracket around it, marking it as uncorroborated.
Lano sat at the threshold and looked back toward the road. She gave one short sound - "ya" - and was quiet.
