Phase 33: The Wider Count
Dream d2610-s: The Hundred and the Few
2026-08-12 09:06 CETI had a dream where...
I had a dream where the guild floor of Pewterlow Town was wider than I had imagined it. The benches ran long in both directions and the spacing between them was generous, cut for a body count larger than the one crossing it now. I walked the length of it with Lano at my side and my ledger open to the new column.
A carved figure above the eastern door read one hundred. Those were the hands that had built the floor. I set the number in the margin and counted the figures crossing the floor now. I counted as I walked. I reached a smaller number before the far wall and set it beside the first.
Both numbers stood in the margin without commentary. I moved to the next page.
Lano pressed against my leg at the far wall. The flagstones were cold and the benches empty at their far ends. The ledger held the names of the places still unwalked, and I worked through them in order: place name, column, mark. Place name, column, mark. The work was slow and the floor gave good light.
The Ruins of Sableholt were for another night. Pewterlow held me still and I let it.
Lano sat at the base of the eastern door while I finished the current entry. She sniffed along the floor's edge, circled once, and lay down with her chin on her paws. I finished writing and rose and she rose with me.
I crossed the floor again toward the beginning, and for a moment the echo of more feet than were present went with me across the old boards, and then settled.
