Phase 33: The Wider Count
Dream d2595-s: Where the Pavers Rested
2026-08-11 08:06 CETI had a dream where...
I had a dream where the road through Eldergate ended at night in a clean line of last-placed stone, and the cut turf was stacked in courses beside the gap it had come from, the stacks even and the cuts clean.
Lano walked to the edge of the laid stones and sat.
I carried the new column here from the seven already settled. The question the column asked was simple: neither running, nor gone. I looked at the road and wrote it down. The work had stopped in the middle of laying. The stacked turf had not been scattered. The gap was open and not yet grown over.
Rurik had gone ahead at the last fork and sat now on a clod of the cut turf, watching. His tail moved once and settled.
I marked the entry and moved to the next line. Eldergate was the town of unfinished roads, and this road confirmed the name. Night three of eight. The map had sixty-five places on it. The seven already counted were settled and behind me. The rest were ahead, and this one was now down.
Lano waited while I closed the ledger.
