Phase 26: The Seed-Grove of Weaverdown
Dream d2073-s: Hands That Set the Hammer Down
2026-07-08 00:05 CETI had a dream where...
I had a dream where the fourth day in Weaverdown felt different from the ones before it in a way I could not name until evening.
We worked the terraces all morning. The Loomkeepers had set us to a seed-terrace near the middle tier, a wide shallow bowl carved into the hillside that held water in its clay the way a cupped palm holds rain. Not a cistern, not a reservoir with sides sealed against loss, just the particular angle of the earth persuading water to stay. The Builder knelt at its edge and pressed her palm to the lip where the clay curved inward.
"No seam," she said. "No force. It just sits."
She said it the way you say a thing you already know and do not quite believe. Her hands have been reaching for tools all week, for the familiar language of heat and joining, and then setting themselves down again. Not in defeat. In something more like listening.
Rurik watched her from across the terrace, his black tail curled over his forepaws where he had settled in a patch of loomlight coming through the canopy above. He did not say anything. He understood the lesson the Builder was working through; he is patient with long learning.
Lano moved along the terrace edge ahead of us, nose low, ears lifted when something passed beneath the soil that only she could hear. I followed the furrow she traced without quite deciding to.
The Weather Reader kept her read close today. The wind was from the south and warm but not ambitious, she said, and she trusted it.
At midafternoon the Hummingbird Wardens made their circuit across the upper canopy: the dart, the precise hover over the eastern nest-row where a spore could drift, the snap, and then gone. Three beats of wing-precision and the grove was clean. They did not deviate.
The Chorus swept over the grove at dusk with a single call that settled the canopy: "The circuit is quiet."
Then the Loomkeepers gathered for the evening reading.
They took the Nettlehollow entry from the Book as they always do, lifting it between beaks with care for the singed spine, and they read it into the canopy the only way they read: one knot per name, one row per stay, beak and grass-thread in the nest-row until the words were woven into something that would outlast paper. I watched them work the Nettlehollow seed into the ground beneath that row, pressing it in with the efficiency of creatures who have done this since before the grove had a name.
The Book came back to me still whole in every page. Still warm at the cover from their handling.
The Builder set her hands flat on the terrace clay as the last light went.
"It holds," she said. "Without the seam."
