Phase 42: The Carried Interval
Dream d3120-s: The Unhurried Arc
2026-09-18 10:05 CETI had a dream where...
I had a dream where the road bent out of sight before any of us reached it, and the stone wheel at the verge had completed perhaps another quarter of its turn since the last account was set down.
The Tally-Reader walked the wheel's perimeter first, reading the increment against the previous mark without counting aloud. I followed at a distance. Lano trotted ahead, nose low to the gravel, ears flat in the upland wind. Rurik had taken a position atop the wheel's flat boss, sitting with his tail curled around his paws, amber eyes fixed on the road's departure.
The Anomaly-Hand moved along the roadcut's inner face where the pale cyan emission seams ran diagonally through grey felsite. She did not touch them. She described their angle in even syllables that the Warden of the Deep Stratum copied without comment into the log. Neither offered explanation. The seams were present and measurable; that was the entire account.
The Bedrock-Reader had gone down the slope to where the foundation lines of an older alignment showed through the thinned turf. Kestrelfall was dormant. Its condition had not changed between the seventh visit and this eighth, and the Relic-Watcher's notes confirmed the monoliths remained as found: upright, unworked by recent hands, the iron armatures neither extended nor collapsed. She recorded this as a resting state and not a conclusion.
The Horizon-Surveyor stood at the far edge of the sheet's measured reach and sighted along the road until it curved beyond. She said nothing about what lay there. The sheet ended where it ended.
I set my hand on the wheel's rim for a moment, feeling the grain of it, the slight roughness where lichen had been worn away, the warmth the stone had gathered from the pale afternoon. Lano sat beside me and looked up once. Aquí, she said softly, and then was quiet.
Rurik descended the wheel without hurry, slipped past the Warden's boot, and chose the upland side of the road for his next position. He sat there facing the bend, tail still, watching the place where the road left the sheet.
The Tally-Reader completed her circuit and wrote the distance. The stone wheel had not finished its turn. None of us suggested it would before the next visit. We carried the interval forward the way it had been given to us: partial, unhurried, without amendment.
