Dream d3024-s: Closer Than Written

I had a dream where...

I had a dream where I sat on the low bench at the edge of the square in Garnetsquare and wrote a short passage, and Lano pressed against my leg while I wrote.

The far account of the cold house at the north corner had said: shutters gone, sill softening, advancing toward ruin. At the doorway: the shutters were stacked inside the entry, the sill was hard, the house stood cold but not especially ruined. I wrote both accounts in the book. Neither is corrected by the other; the near one sees what distance could not.

The lit house to the south had been called busy in the record, a working place. I knocked and no one came. Through the glass: one room lit, one figure who did not look up. Busy may still be true. The near account adds: occupied, private, unknown in the way that lit houses are unknown from the outside.

Lano sniffed at the base of the cold house door and held still a moment, then walked on. Rurik had arrived before us and sat in the doorway with his amber stare turned inward until we came, then stepped aside without hurry.

I closed the book. The passage was short.
