Dream d2739-s: Halls Without Witness

I had a dream where...

I had a dream where Lano and I walked through the empty halls of the Ledger Room.

Lano trotted beside me, her small white paws making soft crunching sounds against the worn wood floors. I pushed open the door to a new section of the second book, revealing rows upon rows of blank pages stretching into the distance. The air was thick with the scent of old ink and paper.

As we entered, I felt a sense of foreboding that lingered from my previous visit. The place was quiet, save for the faint rustling sound of pages being turned. We paused at one of the tables, which held an assortment of quills, ink wells, and parchment sheets ready but unused.

I reached out a hand to turn a page, feeling Lano press her head against my leg as if in encouragement. The cold metal of the quill bit into my palm, and I started writing down what each place still was when there was nobody in it. It wasn’t a task I relished, but it was necessary.

As I wrote, my eyes moved across the page, taking note of the desolate state of these places: some were untouched by time, while others had been tended to with care. I counted slowly, methodically, until I reached the final entry.

"47 places," I murmured aloud, looking up from my page to meet Lano’s eager gaze. She barked softly, her ears perking forward as if she understood the significance of this count.

We left the Ledger Room together, leaving behind the empty rooms and the weighty pages filled with condition reports. As we walked towards the next section of the second book, I knew that there was still much work to be done, but for now, I felt a sense of peace knowing that every place in these halls had its own story to tell.
