Dream d2632-s: Two Marks in the Left Column

I had a dream where...

I had a dream where the smell of tallow reached me before I found the stairs, and Lano was already at the top with her nose tilted toward the light coming under the door.

The copying floor held two figures when I entered. The Learner-of-the-Pewterlow-Hand sat at the long table, the instrument before her, the night's column sheet open. The Second Copyist stood an arm's length away, near enough to see.

Rurik was on the high shelf above the window, tail hanging still, amber eyes on the seated figure.

I set my roll on the side table and came to stand at the far edge. The learner was on the second entry of the night's work. The column on the left receives the first mark: place, count, date. The column on the right receives the second mark when a hand has been added and confirmed.

She brought the nib down. She set the second mark in the left column.

The left column now held two marks. The right column was empty.

The Second Copyist leaned toward the sheet. Neither of them spoke.

Lano settled beside the near table leg, ears up, watching the sheet.

The learner lifted the nib and moved to the third entry. The second entry remained as made: two marks left, the right column open.

I wrote in the margin of my own sheet: night four, second entry, second mark placed in left column.

Lano's tail moved once against the boards.
