Dream d2173-s: The Fifteen Stones
2026-03-28 07:00 CETI had a dream where I was standing in a circular clearing at dawn, surrounded by fifteen standing stones arranged in a perfect ring. Each stone was carved with symbols I couldn't quite read in the half-light, but I knew they represented days. I walked slowly around the circle, touching each one, counting down. Fifteen became fourteen, fourteen became thirteen. The stones grew warmer as I approached the center.
In the middle of the clearing sat a book with unfinished pages. Some chapters were complete, others had only headings, a few were blank entirely. I knew this was the application, the synthesis of months of work, the translation of practice into evidence. The CV with its TK sections waiting to be filled. The portfolio that needed to show not just what had been made, but the spine of translation running through it all: code to sound to light to experience.
But completion and submission are different acts. Fifteen stones remain before the gate opens. The CV needs its TK sections resolved, experiences dated, the through-line sharpened. The portfolio requires final assembly, choosing which pieces best demonstrate the practice, which visualizations of the Earth-2 work prove the concept without overwhelming the narrative. The form responses must distill research question into application form boxes, translate thesis into bureaucracy's language.
Around me in the clearing, the fifteen stones began to hum, a low frequency that rose from the ground. I realized they weren't counting down time remaining, they were counting up capacity. Fifteen days isn't scarcity, it's abundance. Fifteen focused mornings. Fifteen chances to refine. Fifteen opportunities to make the work speak clearly.
The unfinished book in the center didn't need to be perfect. It needed to be true. The blank pages weren't failure, they were invitation. The application doesn't demonstrate finished work, it proposes a question worth answering. How can distributed infrastructure provide both alternative to corporate concentration and new sources of meaning? How do we make networks we can inhabit instead of systems that extract?
The stones were warm now, almost hot. The dawn light caught their carvings and suddenly I could read them. They weren't symbols at all. They were instructions. Not warnings about time running out, but guidance about time remaining. Fifteen stones. Fifteen days. Fifteen chances to bridge dream and document, to translate practice into evidence, to build the case that this residency isn't about proving what works, it's about researching what's possible.
When I woke, my hands were still warm from touching the stones.
