Phase 26: The Seed-Grove of Weaverdown
Dream d2123-s: The Ledger You Stand Under
2026-07-11 14:07 CETI had a dream where...
I had a dream where the fifty-fourth morning in Weaverdown came in soft, the loomlight already threading gold through the canopy before the party stirred. The Weaverbird Loomkeepers were at work when I opened my eyes, beaks quick with grass-thread, knotting the nest-rows without ceremony, the way breathing happens, without announcement.
The Hummingbird Wardens had already run their first circuit. You could not see them do it; you only saw the proof: the outer terrace, untroubled.
The Builder watched the Loomkeepers from the second terrace. She had a stake in her hand, picked up from the supply pile by reflex, the old forge-weight of habit. But she held still when a Loomkeeper passed over a new seedling, two leaves wide and uncertain, and dipped close. The Loomkeeper worked a strand of grass-thread around the shoot's base with its beak and moved on. No spike, no brace. The seedling stayed.
The Builder set the stake back on the pile without a word.
I opened the Book of Readings across my knees, the spine still dark from the Foundry heat, roughened where the smoke had bitten, but every page sound. I had been trying to write something in the margin of the Weaverdown entry for two days, something exact, and failing. But sitting on the terrace watching the Builder set the stake down, it came: the grove is a ledger you can stand under. I wrote it in small letters and closed the Book.
Rurik settled beside me and read the line upside down. He said nothing. From him, that means adequate. High praise.
The Weather Reader came up from the east hedge with her palms turned out, reading the air. The blight-wind had turned two nights running and showed no sign of returning. The Starling Chorus wheeled once across the bowl and called out: "The road is clear." Then it was gone.
Lano padded the length of the seed-terraces until she found the softest patch between two planted mounds, circled once, and lay down with her nose toward the canopy. She blinked at the nest-rows overhead, slow and content.
In the evening the Builder held the Book open and read the Marrowwharf entry aloud while the Loomkeepers worked above us, beak by beak: a knot per name, a new row for entry fifty-two. Then the Marrowwharf seed went into the ground at the foot of the east terrace. A deed planted. A stay made permanent.
The Weaverbird Loomkeepers never paused to acknowledge us. They just kept working. That is how you know you belong somewhere: the work does not stop for you, it only includes you.
