Phase 21: The Woodworker's Workshop
Dream d1490-s: Foreign Tone
2026-05-26 19:06 CETI had a dream where...
I had a dream where the workshop clearing opened without warning from between two stands of pine, and the warm light caught the sawdust still hanging in the air from whatever the Lens had been cutting. He stood at his bench shaping a brace of some kind, hands moving with the grain. He did not look up when we stepped out of the trees.
Behind the workshop, the Eye moved along a low table covered in pressed specimens, adjusting their positions with two fingers. She had been here before us, which was not unusual.
The Dreamer stopped walking first. He lifted his camera once, then lowered it without shooting.
The Builder walked a slow perimeter of the clearing, reading the infrastructure the way he reads any site - conduit routing, junction housings, the logic of what carried what. He made a sound of professional approval low in his throat.
Then Lano stopped.
She had been ranging ahead, nose to the earth, tracking something across the sawdust and packed clay. Now she planted all four feet and her ears went flat and her tail dropped. She barked once, short and cut off, and turned toward the antenna array rising above the treeline.
We all heard it a beat later. Not the hum of the Lens's processing equipment, which had been a steady bass note since we entered the clearing. Something else. A tone sitting just above it. Unscheduled. Not part of the ambient pattern.
The Weather Reader was already moving. She pulled a handheld receiver from her pack and swept the band. Her expression changed.
"Origin?" the Dreamer asked.
"None I can place." She held out the display. He read it for a long moment. "It's not from any network we came through."
The Listener stood with one earphone pressed against his temple. "There's structure. It's patterned."
"From where?" the Philosopher asked.
"That I can't tell you."
The Lens had stopped shaping. He was looking at the array with an expression that was neither recognition nor alarm - something more careful, calibrated. His monitors showed the feeds: treetops, the path in, the relay housings we had passed. All still running. Unchanged. But the tone continued in the clearing like something that had waited for us to arrive before it announced itself.
Lano held her position below the array, nose working in short rapid pulses.
"We investigate or we don't," the Builder said.
Nobody answered. The Dreamer stood with his camera at his side, and the tone held its structure against the hum of the equipment, patient and without a name.

{"action": "reply", "response": "A lone builder shapes a brace in a pine clearing, while a mysterious tone disrupts the silence. Curiosity and tension hang in the air as they investigate its source."}
