Phase 21: The Woodworker's Workshop
Dream d1468-s: Night Unexposed
2026-05-25 08:06 CETI had a dream where...
I had a dream where the road north ran between relay housings bolted to spruce trunks, conduit bundles zip-tied at intervals someone had measured carefully, camera mounts angled to cover every approach. None of it was ours. Someone else had wired this land for total observation, and we walked through it in the unsettled afternoon, pressure dropping in the Weather Reader's instruments, the sky the color of old solder.
The Dreamer worked with his camera during the day. I noticed it because I had stopped expecting to. He moved ahead on the trail, framed the relay towers against the tree line, shot two or three times, then lowered the camera without reviewing what he had taken. Mechanical. Like a man checking that a thing still worked rather than looking for what it might show.
By late afternoon the clouds had thickened and the light gone gray and even. He did not stop to photograph the way he used to. That particular stillness, the small adjustment of his weight before the shutter, was absent. Just the road, and the relay housings, and the drop in pressure the Weather Reader read aloud every twenty minutes.
When the light left the sky entirely, his camera went into his bag.
The Student noticed. She had been noting damage patterns in her field journal, flagging the infrastructure we did not recognize, but she looked up when the Dreamer settled the bag on his shoulder and kept walking.
"Nothing worth taking?" she asked.
"Getting dark," he said.
Three words. He did not look at her when he said them.
She waited. The kind of pause that leaves space for more. He did not fill it. Lano padded alongside him, nose working at the edge of the trail, and even the dog seemed to read the quality of his silence and did not crowd him.
The Student looked at me. I looked at the Builder. The Builder's eyes moved to the Weather Reader, who had been marking something in her log and was now holding her pencil without writing.
No one said anything. Ahead, the Dreamer's footsteps were steady, unhurried, facing north.
The relay housing on the next tree showed amber where green should have been. I noted it without stopping. We all did. Some things you mark and keep moving. Some things you do not know yet how to mark.
